Grinding

  • We have the ability and machinery to remove all ceramic and vinyl composit tile.

  • Prior to operating a machine a scratch test is conducted to determine the hardness of the concrete. The results of this test, inform us what level of metal bonded diamonds need to be used to successfully polish the designated area.

  • Once the concrete hardness is determined, we begin running low grit metal diamonds on our polishing machines.

  • While we are in these early steps the aggregate in the concrete slab is exposed.

  • It is important to note that with more aggregate exposure comes more time spent with these low grit diamonds. Likewise, the more shiny the floor the more time is needed with our finer grit hybrid diamonds.

Densifying

  • We use metal diamonds early to remove surface-level scratches or spalls. When these areas are grinded out, the floor opens causing the PSI to lower. After we grind and before we polish, the slab needs to rebind. This is where our next step begins.

  • On every floor we polish we make sure to densify the concrete after our first step. When a densifier is applied, a chemical reaction occurs causing the slab to strengthen internally.

  • This step does not take us long, but it is one of the most critical in determining the longevity of a polished floor.

Polishing

  • After the densifier has had time to dry, we apply higher grit hybrid diamonds to our machines and begin polishing.

  • In the polishing phase, we retrace our grinding/cutting steps only with finer grit hybrid diamonds.

  • Typically when we polish, we only need two levels of hybrid diamonds to achieve a desired gloss level.

  • We ask to keep in mind the higher the desired gloss level, the more time and diamonds are needed to reach this level.

Sealing

  • Once the polishing phase is completed, we can turn off our machines and begin to seal the floor.

  • Prior to sealing, we make sure that the entire area is cleaned and all debris is removed from the slab. This will allow an even application and consistent shine throughout the entire section.

  • After the final coating has dried and burnished the floor will pop. This is where we achieve the shine and gloss levels you have been thinking about.

  • Although the floor will look bright and shiny, we guarantee our floor will pass a slip test.
